2. Structure of Modal Perfect
Structure:
Subject + modal + have + past participle (V3)
Examples:
She must have forgotten.
They might have missed the train.
He should have studied harder.
This structure refers to the past.
3. Must Have + V3 (Strong Deduction About the Past)
Meaning: I am almost certain.
The lights are off; they must have left.
She looks exhausted; she must have worked all night.
Strong logical conclusion.
4. Might Have / May Have + V3 (Past Possibility)
Meaning: It is possible.
She might have forgotten the meeting.
They may have taken a different route.
Less certain than “must have.”
5. Could Have + V3
Two meanings:
