The past continuous describes actions that were in progress at a specific time in the past.
2. Form Structure
A. Affirmative
Subject + was/were + verb-ing
Examples:
Scientists were conducting experiments.
She was studying when the phone rang.

B. Negative
Subject + was/were + not + verb-ing
She was not working yesterday.
They were not listening.

Was/Were + subject + verb-ing?

Used to describe a scene or setting.
The sun was setting, and birds were flying across the sky.
