2. Form Structure
A. Affirmative
Subject + past form of verb
Examples:

She completed the assignment.

B. Negative
Subject + did not + base verb
She did not finish the report.
They did not attend the meeting.
Note: After “did,” use the base verb.
Incorrect:
She did not finished. ❌
Correct:
She did not finish.
C. Questions
Did + subject + base verb?
Did she finish the report?
Did they travel to Japan?
3. Regular vs Irregular Verbs
A. Regular Verbs (add -ed)
work → worked
study → studied
analyze → analyzed
Spelling rules:
study → studied (change y to ied)
stop → stopped (double consonant)
B. Irregular Verbs
go → went
see → saw
write → wrote
take → took
build → built
Irregular verbs must be memorized.

6. Past Simple vs Present Perfect
Past Simple → specific finished time
Present Perfect → no specific time
Correct:
She visited London in 2019.

Incorrect:
She has visited London in 2019. ❌
Time marker forces past simple.
