3. Degree of Comparison Transformation

Three degrees:

Positive
Comparative
Superlative

Example 1

Superlative:

Mount Everest is the highest peak in the world.

Comparative:

Mount Everest is higher than any other peak in the world.

Positive:

No other peak in the world is as high as Mount Everest.

Example 2

Comparative:

This problem is more difficult than that one.

Positive:

That problem is not as difficult as this one.

4. Affirmative ↔ Negative Transformation

Affirmative:

She is always honest.

Negative:

She is never dishonest.

Affirmative:

Everyone knows the answer.

Negative:

Nobody is unaware of the answer.

5. Interrogative ↔ Assertive

Interrogative:

Isn’t she intelligent?

Assertive:

She is very intelligent.

Interrogative:

Assertive:

Exclamatory:

Assertive:

It is a very beautiful sunrise.

Exclamatory:

Assertive:

7. Common Errors in Transformation

⚠ Double Negative Error

Incorrect: Nobody doesn’t know the answer.
Correct: Nobody knows the answer.

⚠ Meaning Distortion in Sentence Transformation

Incorrect: He is too tired to work. → He is so tired that he can work.
Correct: He is so tired that he cannot work.

⚠ Wrong Tense in Indirect (Reported) Speech

Incorrect: She said she is happy.
Correct: She said she was happy.

⚠ Incorrect Degree Transformation

Incorrect: No other girl is as taller as Maria.
Correct: No other girl is as tall as Maria.
