Grade 7 Mathematics

Welcome to Grade 7! A full-year math course aligned with the Canadian curriculum.

📚 33 lessons  ·  5 units  ·  All strands covered

Welcome to Grade 7 Math! 👋

Grade 7 is a pivotal year in your math journey. You’ll build on your Grade 6 foundations and develop the critical thinking skills that set you up for high school math and beyond. This course covers everything you need for success on EQAO (Ontario), FSA (BC), PAT (Alberta), and other provincial assessments.

Every lesson is designed to be self-paced, interactive, and grounded in real Canadian contexts — from hockey statistics to maple syrup economics, from Vancouver transit to Montreal cuisine.

📘 What You’ll Learn — 5 Units, 33 Lessons

1

Number — Fluency with Operations

L1–L10

Master integer operations (all four), fractions, decimals, percents (increases/decreases), rates, ratios, and exponents. Build the computational fluency that underpins all other strands.

Key skills: Integer arithmetic  ·  Fraction operations  ·  Percent change  ·  Order of operations with integers

2

Algebra — Expressions and Equations

L11–L17

Work with algebraic expressions, solve two-step equations, apply the distributive property, handle inequalities, and explore linear relationships through tables and graphs.

Key skills: Multi-step expressions  ·  Two-step equations  ·  Distributive property  ·  Linear relations

3

Data — Analysis and Probability

L18–L23

Deepen your data literacy with sampling techniques, bias analysis, circle graphs, relative frequency, and probability of independent events using tree diagrams.

Key skills: Sampling & bias  ·  Circle graphs  ·  Independent events  ·  Tree diagrams

4

Spatial Sense — Geometry and Measurement

L24–L29

Explore circles (π, circumference, area), composite 3D volumes, cylinder surface area, angle relationships with parallel lines, congruence, and transformations on the coordinate grid.

Key skills: Circle calculations  ·  Cylinder SA/V  ·  Parallel lines  ·  Coordinate transformations

5

Financial Literacy — Real-World Money Skills

L30–L33

Apply Canadian financial concepts: taxes and gratuities, unit rates and best buys, percent change in real contexts, and simple interest for loans and credit decisions.

Key skills: Tax & tip calculations  ·  Unit rates  ·  Percent change  ·  Credit & loans

🎯 How Each Lesson Works

Every lesson follows the same proven structure so you always know what to expect:

📖 1. Read the Lesson

Three concept blocks with clear explanations, worked examples, and Canadian contexts.

✓ 2. Check Your Understanding (CYU)

Two practice questions per concept with click-to-reveal answers — solve before revealing!

⚠️ 3. Study Common Mistakes

Learn from typical errors BEFORE they trip you up on assessments.

📝 4. Practice Challenge

Provincial-assessment-style questions with model answers and marking notes.

📄 5. Download the Worksheet

A printable PDF worksheet (18 marks) to consolidate what you’ve learned.

🏆 6. Take the Quiz

13 auto-graded questions (10 multiple choice + 3 true/false) with instant feedback and explanations.

📋 What You’ll Need

📓 Notebook & pencil — for working through problems by hand. This is essential; you learn math by DOING, not just reading.

📏 Ruler & protractor — for geometry lessons (Unit 4).

🧮 Calculator — a basic scientific calculator helps with complex calculations. Most lessons encourage manual computation first, calculator verification second.

⏱️ About 45–60 minutes per lesson — 15–20 minutes to read, 15 minutes for practice, 10 minutes for the quiz.

💡 Tips for Success

✓ Work problems by hand first. Before revealing any CYU answer, try the problem yourself with pencil and paper. This is where real learning happens.

✓ Read Common Mistakes carefully. These are the exact traps that cost marks on provincial tests. Learning them in advance is a huge advantage.

✓ Don’t skip units. Each unit builds on the previous. Algebra needs Number skills; Financial Literacy uses percents and decimals.

✓ Use the Practice Challenge as a dress rehearsal. The marking notes show exactly what assessors look for.

✓ Aim for 80%+ on each quiz. If you score lower, review the explanations, redo the lesson, and retake the quiz.
